Spain works brilliantly for an active family trip, especially in spring and autumn when much of central Europe is still too cold (or snow-covered) for hiking. It’s one of those places where you can mix slower travel, outdoor adventure and culture without it feeling forced or overly planned.
So far, our Spain trips have combined hut to hut style hiking in Mallorca, interrailing from the UK down to southern Spain, and a completely different pace on the Atlantic coast with a week of surfing. Along the way, we’ve explored cities like Barcelona and Córdoba, experienced Semana Santa with kids, and worked out how to make longer train journeys feel manageable and enjoyable as part of the trip.
You’ll find a mix of practical guides and real itineraries here; from hiking the GR221 in Mallorca using public transport, to planning an interrail route to Spain with kids, to choosing where to base yourselves for a more relaxed, activity-led week by the coast.
If you’re looking for outdoor adventures with kids in Spain, without relying on packaged holidays, this is a good place to start.
