Ski gift guides are often full of novelty socks, ski boot Christmas tree decorations, and crap gadgets that never leave the box. This one isn’t.
These are gifts I’d actually buy; and many I already have – for real families who ski. I’ve been skiing almost every year since I was seven, and now my own kids are thoroughly hooked too. We own, or have gifted, almost all of these ski gifts ourselves!
Between freezing chairlifts, boot room chaos, and packing lists that never end, I’ve developed a pretty low tolerance for useless kit.
So this list focuses on practical, genuinely fun or functional ski gifts that won’t end up in the back of a cupboard.
It covers the full gang; adults, kids, and the whole family, with one or two splurge-worthy ideas for those who deserve something special.
There’s also a section on experience-based gifts, which are available specifically in Les Arcs, the brilliant French resort I’ve been visiting for 25 years and now know like the back of my (glove-covered) hand; and which most of my skiing content revolves around.
If you’re skiing in Les Arcs this season, these make great additions to the gift list.

🎿 Best ski gifts for the whole family
These gifts are ideal for the whole crew to enjoy – whether it’s on the mountain, in the apartment, or during the endless wait for the ski season to begin.
🎭 Helmet Cover
Ridiculous-looking, genuinely useful
Turns the wearer (adult or child!) into a koala, ladybird, flamingo, or octopus – which makes it ten times easier to find each other on the mountain. When I lost my son on the slopes one afternoon, I could tell the piste monitors he looked like a koala. They found him within minutes. Worth every penny.

📘 Epic Snow Adventures of the World
Hardback travel book by Lonely Planet
A beautifully designed coffee table book full of wild winter trips and powdery inspiration. Great for post-trip reminiscing or plotting next season’s adventure. I love this book (and the others in the series too).

🎲 Avalanche Card Game

🧲 Magnetic hand warmers
Reusable warmers for cold mountain hands
These are the kind of thing you don’t think you need… until you really need them. They’re rechargeable and provide 6-9 hours of all-round heat, with 3 heat levels. They can even be used as a power bank to charge your phone, which is very handy.

🧢 Buff
The classic ski neck warmer
Neck gaiter, face mask, headband, emergency ski hat — whatever you call it, everyone needs at least one. Lightweight, easy to pack, and useful in all weathers. There are lots of copies out there, but the original Buff brand still makes the cosiest and best polar buffs (which include a fleece section) on the market.

🧒 Brilliant ski gifts for kids
These are the gifts that kids actually enjoy – and more importantly, that parents won’t instantly regret packing. All tested on small people with cold fingers and short patience.
🛷 Snow Shovel Sledge
Lightweight, compact sledge for snowy adventures
Shaped like a shovel, built for slipping down snowy slopes. This lightweight sledge is easy to stash in a backpack and fun to use on the learner slopes outside your apartment or the local hill. You can even clip them together for group descents.

🥽 Uvex Speedy Pro Ski Goggles
Kid-friendly goggles that actually fit small faces
Affordable, durable, and and with the right lens colour for all conditions – my kids wear these, and although they’re not super snazzy, they’re incredibly functional. They come in a few colours and don’t fog up too easily.

🧦 Kids Merino Wool Ski Socks
Warm feet = less whining
Thick, warm, and cushioned in the right places. These help keep kids’ boots comfy and their feet toasty – and yes, they’re worth buying a proper ski-specific pair.

🧦 Actually useful ski gifts for adults
No tacky “funny” ski mugs or novelty socks here. These gifts are all genuinely useful for skiers who’d rather be on the mountain than in the gift shop.
🧦 Smartwool Ski Socks
Proper merino ones
These are my favourite for good reason: Merino wool keeps your feet warm, dry, and amazingly fresh-smelling, even after a full day in ski boots. Smartwool’s cushioning, snug fit, and durability make them a solid upgrade from anything in the sock drawer at home.

🥽 Adult Ski Goggles
Good goggles = better visibility, happier skiing
Whether it’s whiteout or sunshine, a decent pair of goggles is essential. Look for a rose or orange lens colour, which will work in almost all conditions (grey lenses are no good when the light is flat which is when you need goggles most!), anti-fog coatings and adjustable straps.

🎒 Day Backpack
For snacks, spare layers, and emergency Haribo
If you’re skiing with kids, or carrying a packed lunch with you, a good ski specific pack makes ski days easier. These ones have a hydration pocket, ski attachment system (so you can carry more than one pair of skis – sometimes necessary with kids), and enough room for gloves, goggles and lunch.

🎗️ Ski Ties
Cheap, cheerful, and very useful
Use them to carry skis to the lift, or keep them together while you eat lunch at a mountain restaurant. One of those items you don’t know you need until you’re on holiday without them.

💧 Collapsible Water Bottle
Hydration without the bulk
Fits easily in a backpack or jacket pocket, and doesn’t take up any room when empty. Skiing’s dehydrating; this helps fix that without adding bulk. I use this one all the time; not just for skiing.

🔒 Mini Cable Lock
Small but effective ski security
It’s not indestructible, but it’s more than enough to deter casual ski thieves while you’re at lunch. Tiny, lightweight, and worth having if you ski (or travel!) solo.

🕶️ Ski Sunglasses
Sunny day essentials for skiers and boarders
These sunglasses are a brilliant budget option for bluebird days. With Category 3 UV protection, adjustable nosepiece, and comfy arms that stay put under a helmet, they’re designed for spring skiing. Plus, they actually look pretty cool.

🎟️ Experience-based ski gifts (only in Les Arcs)
If you’re skiing in Les Arcs, these make brilliant add-on gifts; proper experiences rather than more stuff. I’ve been coming to Les Arcs for 25 years, and these are some of the best ways to make a ski trip feel extra special.
🎿 Advanced ski lesson with New Generation
For skiers who want to level up and ski the whole mountain with confidence
A half-day or full-day lesson with a qualified instructor is one of the best gifts you can give a keen skier. New Generation Ski School in Les Arcs offers private or small-group sessions tailored to your level — whether you want to sharpen technique, explore steeper terrain, or finally feel confident in powder.

⛷️ First Tracks experience
Ski fresh corduroy before the lifts open to the public
Get early lift access and enjoy empty slopes with ski patrol before breakfast. Les Arcs offers this one or two times a week — it’s a brilliant gift for keen skiers.

🛷 Luge 2000
High-speed, 3-kilometre-long sledding run in Les Arcs 2000
This is a purpose-built luge track with banked turns, snow spray, and a fair bit of yelling. Great for older kids, teens, and adrenaline-loving adults.

🍴 Fondue evening at the Igloo Bar
Cheese, candlelight, and snow underfoot
Walk up to the igloo bar with a guide, have a fondue by torchlight, and then slide home full of melted cheese and smugness. Works well for couples or families with older kids. Or couples might even want to continue the adventure by staying overnight in a private igloo with a king-size bed and a polar expedition sleeping bag, with a good breakfast with a breathtaking panoramic view the next morning.

⚡ The Aiguille Rouge zip line
Fly over the mountains at 130 km/h
This one’s for thrill-seekers. The Les Arcs zipline is high, fast, and wildly scenic – and makes a brilliant experience gift for someone who likes their skiing with a side of “scream into the void.”

🥾 Guided snowshoe hikes in Les Arcs
Quiet trails, snowy forests, and actual peace
Les Arcs has a range of guided snowshoeing experiences through Evolution 2; from animal-tracking walks for kids (my son would have loved this; he once wandered off from ski school because he was following snowshoe hare tracks…) to panoramic hikes, twilight strolls with wine and cheese, and even sessions focused on mountain safety.

🎁 That’s a wrap
Ski gifts don’t have to be over-the-top or useless ski-themed tat. Whether you’re shopping for your own crew or looking to surprise someone who’s Alps-bound this season, these are the things I’d genuinely recommend; because I’ve used them, bought them, or (in the case of my son’s helmet cover) been incredibly grateful for them.
If you’re heading to Les Arcs, the experience gifts are some of the best ways to make a trip feel extra special; and they won’t add to the pile of ski gear taking over your hallway at home. Nobody really needs more stuff; especially when ski holidays already come with a packing list as long as your arm!
And yes, I’ll keep updating this list as I find more gifts that are worth the luggage space, as well as those experiences that don’t take up any room at all, but still make the trip miles better.
